Winemaker, V12 Vineyards
Chad Alexander first entered the wine business in 1985 working for Head winemaker Randle Johnson at Mt. Veeder’s Hess Collection Winery. After 8 years of working with mountain fruit, he decided to expand his skills and worked in various winery cellars throughout Napa Valley. He studied Geology in college to expand his knowledge of soil science and how it correlates with planting vineyards. This has helped him understand rootstock selections, water retention, and other aspects related to proper vineyard design.
In 1997, Chad took a full-time cellar master position at an Ultra Premium Winery renowned for hillside Cabernets. In 2003, Chad talents were recognized and he was promoted to Head winemaker. He increased the integrity and overall quality of the wines. His wines scored 90+ points and were well-received by top wine critics. Working for a boutique winery allowed him to learn all aspects of the wine business such as Viticulture, General Management, Sales, Marketing and Cost Analysis.
In 2006 Chad’s wine making reputation started to spread. He was receiving calls from Boutique wineries asking him to produce their wines. In 2006, Alexander Wine Consulting was launched and now Chad Alexander produces wine for a select group of top quality wineries and is experienced in producing wines of all varietals. V12 Vineyards is one of his clients that produces wine from steep Hillside vineyards.

Let the wine showcase the vineyard and terroir. Hillside vineyards produce small berries when compared to the valley floor, in return, the the juice to skin/skin ratio is much different as well. I always want the fruit to be out in front of the tannins in order to produce a well integrated, balanced wine. Thus, tannin management is crucial during fermentation. The depth and concentration of flavors from V12 Vineyards is very exciting to work with.
