2011 Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley
For 60 years Stony Hill has be famous for making classic white wines from its hillside grapes. In 2012 it released its 2009 Cabernet, the first-ever Cabernet from this illustrious property to glowing reviews. This year’s lot is a special selection by winemaker Mike Chelini from the best barrels of our 2011 vintage. The 2011 is a further refinement of our "old style" Napa Cabernet - elegant and balanced with only 13.5% alcohol and lovely but subdued tannins.
Aged in a mixture of old and new oak cooperage for 16 months.

Winemaker, Stony Hill Vineyard
I started making wine with my grandfather in Sonoma at the age of 6.
My commercial winemaking experience began at Sterling Vineyards working for Rick Forman in 1969. In 1971 I moved to Stony Hill Vineyard to become vineyard manager, and in 1973 I also assumed the role of assistant winemaker to Fred McCrea. When Fred died in 1977, I became the winemaker and vineyard manager, a position that I still hold today.
