2011 Cabernet Sauvignon
Rutherford
Vintage 2011 was not without challenges, and tested the skill and faith of every grower and winemaker in the valley. Determined to prove the early critics of the vintage wrong, we applied our years of winemaking experience to produce several lots of stellar wines. For our Premiere Napa Valley offering, we created a blend of three wines that not only rose to the challenge, but also surpassed our wildest dreams in terms of quality. We started with a core of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Morisoli Vineyard in Rutherford, chosen for its inky black, highly structured and complex character. To round it out we blended in aromatic Merlot from Los Carneros and dense Malbec from Yountville.
Aged for 22 months in 70% new French oak.
Winemaker, Elyse Winery
In 2000, I worked a harvest at Bernardus Winery and made delicate wines using traditional Burgundian methods. From there I went to South Australia and worked a vintage at Yalumba Winery and was exposed to large-scale production and progressive techniques. Starting as assistant winemaker for Elyse Winery in 2001, my approach to winemaking is a balance of these sometimes opposing traditional and progressive styles.
Country born: United States

Winemaking Philosophy:
In a word - Blending. I have never tasted a young wine that could not be improved in some way by blending.
