PureCru Napa Valley

Return of the Secret Clone

Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley

5 cases produced

Description

This clone made its notable debut at the 2002 Auction Napa Valley by finishing third overall in the Barrel Auction, raising a staggering $56,400 for a ten-case lot of the 2001, although it had never been tasted anywhere prior to that. That carried over to a four-bottle (750ml, 1.5, 3L, 6L) lot of the 2000 vintage in the Live Auction that went for $100,000. That was 10 years ago and although the winery may have changed, the winemaker and the vineyard have remained the same as Mitch Cosentino of pureCru Winery has continued using these grapes in his pureCoz, Secret 7 Cab and upcoming M.Coz blends. 100% Secret Clone Cabernet Sauvignon is uniquely brighter and more exotic than most Cabs, often giving the appearance of a blend when it is not!

Winemaker, pureCru Wines

Winemaker, Mitch Cosentino

After 30 years of winemaking, Mitch Cosentino launched pureCru Napa Valley in 2008, a small producer of wines designed to accompany fine world cuisine. pureCru began as what Cosentino refers to as "a winemakers wine project" and has evolved into a venture that takes Cosentino back to his roots and some of the finest grape sources he has worked with over the years.

"I had been reminiscing about a small, hands-on entity where I could do it all myself again, like I did in the beginning," said Cosentino. He previously founded Cosentino Winery in 1980, although he is no longer involved there. Mitch currently consults for other small new Napa Valley producers who strive to attain high standing .

Country born: United States

Education: Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Communications from California State University, Sacramento.

Years in the wine industry: 30+ years

Honors / Awards:
Winner of countless Sweepstakes and Best of Show Awards including the Andre Tchelistcheff Award for Winemaker of the Year

Winemaking Philosophy:
It my intent to make "real wine" thru time honored methods with proper aging and not thru the use of smoke and mirrors (and no flashy techniques). I expect every wine to be able to age and mature for many years if not decades, yet still drink very well upon release. I have a great library that proves it is more than possible.
