Lost Dog
2009 Cabernet Sauvignon
St. Helena
For thirty years my family has farmed grapes in the Napa Valley and for the last six I have always lost one, two or three of my Airedale Terriers while walking our St. Helena vineyard. They always come back, sometimes within minutes, sometimes hours. But with tongues hanging and sporting unique aromas. In the winter, muddy. In the summer, covered in burs. But never with the jack rabbit they were hell-bent on catching. This jailbreak occurs in a particular block of our Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyard planted to Clones See and 337 (the backbone of our heavier Cabs). Lost Dog is sourced from this vineyard block, and is made in honor of the unexpected "chase" and where it can sometimes lead you.

Winemaker, Dutch Henry Winery
I began my winemaking career taking care of my family's vineyard in Calistoga. At the time, we sold our fruit to the co-op which is now Hall Winery. After graduating from college, I spent a year studying/working in France. Upon returning, I worked for Vincent Arroyo Winery (Calistoga) in both the vineyards and cellar. In 1991, my family started Dutch Henry Winery, where I serve as the winemaker.
