Description
Boeschen Vineyards is a very small, family-owned vineyard and winery committed to making the best possible Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines. The family members—Dann, Shawn and Doug—craft the wine and farm our seven-acre estate vineyard. This Premiere lot is selected from the best Cabernet blocks grown on our prized hillside terraces. The blend is made in an Old-World style, seeking balance and complexity, with small additions of Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Boeschen Vineyards chooses only the best grapes to produce fewer than 400 cases each year. This five-case lot is truly the best of the best, made only for this one-time event.

18 months in barrel + 12 months in bottle.

My previous winemaking experience came from multiple great wineries, including Spottswoode, Sequoia Grove/Karl Lawrence and Chateau Mercier, in Bordeaux.

Study and winemaking work in Bordeaux, France.
Mentored by Mike and Molly at Sequoia Grove/Karl Lawrence and Jennifer Williams and Rosemary Cakebread at Spottswoode
Years in the wine industry: 20-30 years
Winemaking Philosophy:
My first priority is to make balanced, expressive wines that reflect the character of our hillside estate vineyards. My second priority is to take the winemaking seriously while not taking myself too seriously!
Q&A With the Winemaker
Q: Premiere Napa Valley wines are innovative and allow each winery to showcase the region's sense of exploration in fine winemaking. What kind of exploration did your Premiere Napa Valley wine allow you to do?
A: 2007 was such a beautiful year for our estate Petit Verdot: concentrated, aromatic and seductive. The Premiere lot allowed us to play with higher percentages of this grape than we would normally include in our blend.
Q: What was your inspiration for this offering?
A: Our inspiration for our blends always comes from whatever mother nature gives us from our estate vineyard each year. Our 2007 hillside Cabernet was muscled and powerful, while the blenders of Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec added spice, aromatics and lush mouthfeel. It was an inspirational vintage!

Q: Why should a wine lover have a bottle of this wine in their cellar?
A: This is a wonderful wine now, but it will expand and evolve very well over the years. Made in more of an old-world style, with lower alcohol than many, its shelf life should provide decades of happy drinking.
