Q: Premiere Napa Valley wines are innovative and allow each winery to showcase the region's sense of exploration in fine winemaking. What kind of exploration did your Premiere Napa Valley wine allow you to do?

A: The Cornerstone Cellars Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is typically a massive, concentrated, powerful wine - a classic for aging. The PNV lot allowed me to explore individual barrels more closely. Selecting a barrel which maintains the characteristics of the 'regular' bottling and taking these to new heights...More roundness, richness to absorb the power of the Howell Mountain tannins producing a voluptuous wine which is already approachable but still the tannic structure of a classic Napa Valley Cabernet built for aging.

Q: What was your inspiration for this offering?

A: The inspiration for the 2008 Cornerstone Cellars Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon PNV is Howell Mountain...to create a wine with the power and massive concentration true to Howell Mountain's characteristics and envelop all that which a touch of elegance.

A: I chose to make this wine from this particular  block  because  the wines from our Howell Mountain - Ink Grade block are profound, complex and concentrated and will age for many years. Our Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is entirely produced from an organically certified vineyard, farmed by master viticulturist Mark Neal. The white 'tufa' soils, consisting of decomposed volcanic ash, stress the vines and the fruit produced creates wines with intense varietal and vineyard character and firm tannins.
