David DeSante is the winemaker whom you know for crafting Tierra Roja Cabernet Sauvignon, from Linda Neal's Oakville estate grapes. This time it is Katharine DeSante, who normally takes the supporting role in the winemaking team, stepping to the forefront. She will take Tierra Roja wine from 2008 and blend with DeSante's own personal stash to create this once-in-a-lifetime blend.

Q: Premiere Napa Valley wines are innovative and allow each winery to showcase the region's sense of exploration in fine winemaking. What kind of exploration did your Premiere Napa Valley wine allow you to do?
A: We considered the marriage of flavors from several spectacular vineyards in the eastern hills of Oakville. The imperative was to deliver a blend that tasted harmonious and fulfilling on the day of Premiere. The challenge was for such a blend to offer longevity.

A: The great hillside vineyards of east Oakville and the people who work so hard tending them.
