Description
Block 173 Pinot Noir is situated on an undulating hillside at the northern end of our Carneros ranch, and is planted to clone UCD-23 in rocky soils that produce low yields and exceptionally concentrated flavors.
Winemaker Wayne Donaldson believes simplicity is the best approach when it comes to making Pinot Noir: "I respect the beauty of the fruit." The wine was produced in small open-top fermenters using a combination of hand punch-downs and pump-overs. Twelve months aging in 100 percent new French oak (Allier) barrels followed. With bright, concentrated flavors of raspberry, plum and black cherry, this rich example of Carneros Pinot Noir will be sure to age gracefully for the next 5 to 10 years.
