Description

The grapes for this wine were grown at Mole Hill, home of Lail Vineyards. Mole Hill is situated near the top of Howell Mountain and overlooks the Napa Valley. The Cabernet vineyard is just under three acres and planted in gravelly loam, which reaches a depth of only two to three feet. One of the joys of a very small vineyard is that it can be, and is, treated like a garden. The wine resulting from the 2001 harvest exhibits all the characteristics which make mountain wines so highly sought after. The fruit is rich and intense with layers of cassis and chocolate and some mineral notes. The wine has a beautiful structure and a lingering finish. As John Daniel would say, "This is a wine you will truly ’gopher.’"
