2023 Red Table Wine
St. Helena
Napa Valley was formed millions of years ago by tectonic plate movement and violent volcanic eruptions that created the rugged Vaca mountain range to the east and pristine Mayacamas range to the west. CourAvant is located mid-valley on the southern border of the St. Helena appellation at the base of the Mayacamas and the northern reaches of the famed Rutherford Bench. Given its unique location, the vineyard benefits from both the intricate qualities of volcanic soil eroded from the mountain and the famed St. Helena alluvial fan on the valley floor. When combined, the vineyard embodies an individual diversity of distinct soil types matched to specific clonal selections of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The vines were planted in the early 1990s and lend an old vine character to the classic Left Bank Bordeaux style that we endeavor to preserve accented by the personality of Napa Valley. Under the steady and experienced hand of winemaker Sally Johnson Blum, we strive to enhance the ultimate dining pleasure by carefully merging the qualities of meticulous vineyard care with an old-fashioned hands-on and laid-back winemaking regimen.
Winemaker, CourAvant
As a winemaker, I strive to blend classical techniques and scientific training with an open mind and an eye to the future. My specialty is developing collaboration by finding common ground and tapping into the infectious passion that inspired every one of us to pursue a career in this historical and fascinating field. I am grateful for every single day that I spend walking among the vines.
