McKahn Wines

Red Wine
Napa Valley

5 cases produced

  • A highly unique and expressive blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Syrah
  • Aging in 50% new French oak and 50% neutral oak
  • The Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from a small vineyard at the top of Mount Veeder
  • The Syrah is sourced from an iconic vineyard in Los Carneros

This blend showcases a formerly esteemed variety and my personal favorite, Syrah, paired with the now iconic variety of Cabernet Sauvignon that has become synonymous with Napa Valley. Both varieties, when grown in appropriate terroir and managed properly, thrive in the Napa Valley and produce delicious and interesting wines. This is also a representation of blending a mountain sub-appellation with a lower elevation sub-appellation, both in western Napa Valley. The aim is to create a unique wine that is greater than the sum of its parts by blending two varietals from two appellations together to create one superior wine.

Winemaker, Charles McKahn

I studied Enology, the science of winemaking, for four years at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and graduated in 2011. More important than my studies though were my three harvests working for McManis Family Vineyards in 2007, and Tolosa in 2009 and 2010. I learned what the books couldn’t teach me; that making wine is a lot more than grape juice and yeast. I learned that winemaking is hard work done by blue collar people from all different walks of life. I learned it is a craft that is old and is to be respected. It is millenia of tradition and generations of people trying their damnedest to make spoiled grape juice taste delicious.
