2023 Rosé
Napa Valley
A joyful rosé collaboration among Cathy Corison, Rosemary Cakebread and Steve Matthiason. Your wine is full of elegance and balanced acidity, crafted to grace the table, with a long life ahead. This is a unique treasure honoring traditional rosé, historic vineyard sites and legendary winemakers.
Winemaker, Gallica
Rosemary Cakebread has earned a reputation for making wines of grace and balance with remarkable consistency across vintages. A graduate of University of California Davis’ Viticulture and Enology program, she was introduced to Cabernet Sauvignon at the historic Inglenook Vineyards. From early cellar jobs to a winemaking position with Spottswoode Vineyard and Winery, Rosemary has built her career around a love for wine. Her appreciation and interest in aromatics and blending was born from work with sparkling wine at Mumm Napa Valley. Of course, making wine also means logging hours and miles in the vineyard throughout the growing season. Rosemary can often be found where she most enjoys being- outdoors in the home vineyard or amongst the vines on the properties we are fortunate to collaborate with.
Nestled in the heart of Napa Valley, Gallica's inaugural vintage was the celebrated 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon. The philosophy is a simple one: to craft elegant single vineyard wines which accurately depict the site and story of each unique vintage. The brand symbol is a tribute to the ancient rose, their aromatics, and enhancement to winemaking. We love what we do and are fortunate to call Napa Valley home.

Cathy’s winemaking journey began nearly 50 years ago when she took a wine appreciation course at Pomona College on a complete whim. She fell in love with wine for all the usual reasons, but, as a Biology major, was also taken by the fact that wine is the result of a fascinating collaboration among a series of living systems.
Two years later she graduated, and two days after that, arrived in the Napa Valley, bent on making wine. A master’s degree in Enology at UC Davis followed, and then a harvest internship at Freemark Abbey in 1978. Winemaking positions included Yverdon in 1979-1980 and then Chappellet Vineyard for the 1980’s.
In 1987, toward the end of her tenure at Chappellet, there was a wine inside her that needed to get out and she began to buy grapes and barrels (instead of cars and houses). Using other wineries’ excess capacity while continuing to moonlight at Staglin, York Creek and Long Meadow Ranch, Corison Winery was born.

Years of working with different wineries on the vineyard side of the business has helped me understand the relationship between viticulture and wine. After a decade of exploring making wine from different grape varieties, vineyard sites and farming techniques, I started making our Matthiasson wines in 2003. I strive to make wines that are ripe and powerful yet food friendly and moderate in alcohol. We grow traditional Napa Valley varieties like Cabernet and Chardonnay as well as less common varieties such as Ribolla Gialla and Cabernet Franc.
