Description

Paul Maroon founded his namesake, Maroon Vineyard, in Coombsville more than 20 years ago. It is simultaneously a beautifully refined landscape and a rough, rock-strewn terroir. Composed of two blocks, simply named Upper Block and Lower Block, the vineyard consistently produces some of the best grapes in Coombsville. We’re pleased to share with you this wonderful, unique representation of the Upper Block, aging in a single barrel. The wine is rich and robust, yet with a beam of restraint and balance that reminds us of the complex nature of this vineyard and region in the southern end of Napa Valley. After Paul’s passing, the estate is under new ownership, and we’re excited to continue to push the Maroon estate wines to even higher levels of quality. Cheers!

Chris Corley

Winemaker, Maroon Wines

Winemaker, Chris Corley

I worked at my family's winery in the summers as a teenager, and began full time in the cellar shortly after graduating high school. The 2010 harvest was my 20th at Monticello Vineyards in Napa Valley. I also make wine for a handful of small Napa Valley producers and have been making wine in the Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico for the last four vintages.

Country born: United States

Education: I didn't go to college, choosing rather to learn my craft from the winemakers above and around me through an apprenticeship of 10 years in my family's winery, Monticello Vineyards.

Years in the wine industry: 15-20 years

Honors / Awards:
The greatest honor that I have received is from my family, entrusting me with making the wines that carry our Corley Family name.

Winemaking Philosophy:
The best wines are a combination of respectful grapegrowing and determined winemaking. I listen to the grapes in the field but command the wines in the cellar.
