In the 1960s, what is now David Arthur Vineyards was merely raw land without access roads or utilities. On weekends Don Long and his wife, Anne, would hike up roughly 1,000 feet from the Silverado Trail below to picnic under the large oak tree that still stands in the vineyard in front of the winery. While sitting on their blanket enjoying a glass of wine, Don would envision harnessing the hillside’s potential to cultivate world-class grapevines. In 1978, Don’s vision came to fruition when he and his 28-year-old son, David Arthur Long, built a small barn and began planting grapevines. The winery’s inaugural release was the 1985 vintage, which coincided with the birth year of David’s daughter, Laura. Together with partners Teddy and Paul Bystrowski—Laura’s husband and father-in-law, respectively—the family shares the responsibility of guiding the winery into the future for the next generation. And now they would like to share a very special bottle of wine with you. As the winning bidder, you’ll receive a 9-liter bottle of David Arthur’s top estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Elevation 1147. You will also enjoy a virtual tasting of the 2012 vintage from a 750ml bottle with David and winemaker Nile Zacherle. If conditions permit, David and family would be delighted to host the winning bidder at the winery on Pritchard Hill.
