Description

Ted Edwards is one of the longest-tenured winemakers in Napa Valley. With more than 40 vintages at Freemark Abbey, Ted’s winemaking brilliance is exemplified in the establishment of two iconic, single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons from the Bosché and Sycamore vineyards, now encapsulated in your remarkable 10-magnum vertical lot. You have the rare chance to acquire wines from some of the most treasured and esteemed vintages in Napa Valley winemaking history with magnums from each of these vineyards from 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. Freemark Abbey has been making Bosché Cabernet Sauvignon since 1970, one of the first vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignons in California’s history. Located in deep gravelly soil on the western side of the Napa Valley in the Rutherford nested appellation, this vineyard produces wines that express aromas of dark cherry, brambly blackberry and cassis. Cinnamon, clove, aromatic cedar, cigar box and dark cocoa powder round out the complexity in the nose. The flavor is big, voluptuous and elegant with rich dark cherry, good acidity and integrated tannins. Just a little over a mile south of Bosché is the Sycamore Vineyard, with a slightly different soil composition, one which has more clay content. This vineyard produces wines that are opaque dark ruby in color, expressing black currant, wild blueberry, nuances of blackberry jam on toast, and forest floor in the aroma, with an added Rutherford Dust complexity. There is a strong perception of sweet black cherry and dark plum in the flavor, with good acidity and firm tannin structure.
