The 2017 Hestan Vineyards cellar selection of our best Grenache barrels promises to reflect the outstanding quality of the Alban Clone 2. Following an extended growing season with ideal hang time, this limited five-case lot showcases pure raspberry and rhubarb flavors with spicy white pepper notes, a full mouthfeel, silky tannins and a seductive, smooth finish. It is best served at a cool, almost cellar temperature - 60 degrees Fahrenheit - that highlights the wine’s freshness and delicate bouquet. The Alban Clone 2 was planted by winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown at about 600 ft. elevation on an eastern facing slope at the Hestan Vineyards estate. This site receives the cooler summer sun and is bathed in the shade of the Vaca Mountains at the hottest point of the day in late afternoon. As the sun sets behind the estate, cool night breezes are funneled across the vineyard, ultimately helping our Grenache fruit retain acidity and produce well-balanced wines.
