Description

The 2012 vintage of The Puzzle reached a milestone in the evolution of this iconic wine. With this vintage, there was a greater emphasis on Cabernet Sauvignon, returning to its origins and coming from an ideal growing season in every way. To produce the 2012 vintage, we sourced grapes from our three estate vineyards located within the Spring Mountain District, Mount Veeder and Yountville nested appellations. The grapes for The Puzzle were handpicked. The berries were individually sorted and put into tanks, where fermentation progressed over four weeks. Following fermentation, the wine was aged in 100% new French oak barrels for 22 months before being artfully assembled into the final blend and bottled unfiltered. The perfumes of cedar, juniper, tar and oak mingle with dark fruit, chocolate and plum aromas on the nose. On the palate, this wine is inky, almost brooding, with anise, dark mocha, plum and cassis flavors that are supported by fine tannins. Dark fruit flavors linger on the long finish.
