For Cabernet Sauvignon, few winemaking areas of the world compare to Oakville, California where well-draining soils and an ideal growing climate make for treasured terroir. Here, our Cakebread family takes great pride in farming a small block of Cabernet Sauvignon, near the winery. Optimal soil composition and sun exposure result in wines displaying opulent dark fruit, elegant mouthfeel and fine structure. After night harvesting and gently destemming the berries, the fruit is fermented in small stainless steel takes to maximize color, flavor, and tannin extraction. It then rests for 22 months in 60% new French oak barrels. The result is an exquisite combination of complexity and balance with aromas of blackberry, boysenberry and toasty oak, boasting deep blackberry and fig flavors on the palate with firm yet polished tannins and an elegant dark fruit finish.

Winemaker, Stephanie Jacobs

I started school with every intention of becoming a beer brewer, but during my pre-requisite winemaking classes, I realized wine was my true passion and calling. An internship with Chalone and early jobs with Perry Creek vineyards and Bogle winery further confirmed that I had made the right choice. I joined Cakebread in 2004 as Enologist and became Assistant Winemaker in 2008, along with the role of Pinot Noir Project Leader in 2012. I had the benefit of learning from the talented Julianne Laks during her 30+ year tenure at Cakebread, along with Jack Cakebread and Bruce Cakebread who were the winery’s first and second winemakers.
