Auction 25 | Lot No. 120
5 cases produced
- For the first time, we are producing a 50/50 blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon
- Called Nolan’s Cuvée as these two blocks were harvested the month our son Nolan was born
- Barrel aging 22 months in new French oak
- Hand-harvested from small family vineyards in the St. Helena and Calistoga nested appellations
To say that the 2019 harvest was unique might be an understatement for TATE. Our son and “harvest baby” Nolan arrived three weeks early, just as grapes were coming in. The vintage, however, was nothing short of accommodating - with late but moderate September heat, the Cabernet and Merlot had ample time to develop on the vine. This wine is aging in new French barrels for 22 months, at which time we will only make five cases of our first 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Letting the vineyard express itself in the wine. It is about a sense of place being evident in the wine, not the winemaking.
