E. Lewelling Taplin
2018 Cabernet Sauvignon
St. Helena
We produce intense, full-bodied wines that benefit from the evolution of our vineyards and our winemaking. We trim the canopy to develop the complexity of our fruit late in the season and we minimize interventions in the cellar. This 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon shows a textured brocade of dense black raspberry, boysenberry and Bing cherry notes; a fine reflection of the land we hold dearly and the wine we develop carefully.
Winemaker, Taplin Cellars
With more than two decades of winemaking expertise, Julien Fayard believes in producing wines with an identity, exploiting what makes each one unique. In Bordeaux he worked at Lafite Rothschild and Smith Haut Laffite before relocating to Napa Valley. Julien earned his Master in Agri-Business from ESA France and his Master in Winemaking from Toulouse France. In 2011, he received his MBA from UC Davis.
Country born: France
Education: I have a master's degree in agribusiness from the Agriculture University at Angers, a Master in Enology from Toulouse and an MBA from UC Davis in Entrepreneurship and Business.
Years in the wine industry: 20-30 years
Winemaking Philosophy:
I am a terroir-centric winemaker looking for the essence and signature of a place. I prefer easing a wine forward over aggressive intervention. The magic for me is getting to know each vintage through the year, the harvest, and the fermentations so that I can consistently let the wine express that year and that place.
