Description

With each passing vintage, our matriarch vines that were planted on rough, terraced hillsides in 1983 produce stubbornly small yields of grapes. We care for these old vines on an individual basis in order to ensure we can make at least a full barrel of wine each vintage. The reward for this enduring care of the vines is a Cabernet Sauvignon framed with bold tannins, yet balanced by the expanding layers of flavor and hallmark savory appeal. Such a scant yield of wine is not enough for a commercial offering, but Premiere Napa Valley presents the opportunity to showcase this exclusive bottling from Seavey Vineyard. Seavey Vineyard’s longtime winemaker, Jim Duane, has worked with Seavey’s 40 acres of estate vines to ensure that each parcel is farmed to optimize grape texture and flavor maturation given its soil, aspect, clonal selection and vine age. Seavey’s vineyard manager, Luis Ruiz, cares for the vines all the way through their harvest in the cool of the night. Grapes are hand-harvested, sorted, fermented whole berry, and then barrel-aged in the solar-powered winery a few hundred feet from where the grapes were grown.
