Description

Do you recall that white wine that opened your eyes? A white wine that forced you to acknowledge the artistry of a truly well-made and ageable white wine? Not just a summer sipper, this wine was something to be reckoned with, something deserving of respect if not reverence. Those wines with their tantalizing mix of freshness and complexity; their subtle minerality and full but clean texture have served as our inspiration. We did numerous tastings to align our ideas. We wanted to make a Napa Valley white wine that can age 10 or more years, that has layers, complexity, a touch of austerity but which also carries that traditional Napa Valley terroir. We turned to the Coombsville nested appellation, its cool climate perfect for serious, age-worthy wines. Focusing on two clones of Sauvignon Blanc, Church and Musque, offering opposing dynamics. With low yields, early harvesting and traditional production techniques, we hope to achieve something special.

Winemaking Philosophy:
The vineyard lays the foundation for a great wine. Site selection and vineyard development are the cornerstones. Thoughtful farming with an aim for vine balance, fruit quality as well as land stewardship are the structure. I'm fortunate to work with a small group of great farmers who strive to achieve top quality wines from diverse sites. My techniques in the winery may be seen as a little old fashioned to some. I strive for elegance during extraction and aging and use blending to find a wines complexity.
