Description
For Cabernet Sauvignon, few winemaking areas of the world compare to the Oakville nested appellation, where well-draining soils and an ideal growing climate make for treasured terroir. We take great pride in farming a small block of Cabernet Sauvignon, planted in gravelly soils on a narrow finger coming off of the alluvial fans of the Mayacamas Mountains. Optimal soil composition and sun exposure result in wines displaying opulent fruit, elegant mouthfeel and fine structure. Crafted from Clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon berries which are small in size yet intense in aroma and flavor, our Premiere Napa Valley Oakville block selection rests for 22 months in 55 percent new French oak barrels. The result is an exquisite combination of complexity and balance.

I started school with every intention of becoming a beer brewer, but during my pre-requisite winemaking classes, I realized wine was my true passion and calling. An internship with Chalone and early jobs with Perry Creek vineyards and Bogle winery further confirmed that I had made the right choice. I joined Cakebread in 2004 as Enologist and became Assistant Winemaker in 2008, along with the role of Pinot Noir Project Leader in 2012. I had the benefit of learning from the talented Julianne Laks during her 30+ year tenure at Cakebread, along with Jack Cakebread and Bruce Cakebread who were the winery’s first and second winemakers.
